Hey all.

Dropped my '87 Raider off today for the annual VA state safety inspection, which it failed due to a) crack in exhaust manifold (small crack, according to the notes), b) pinched air injection tube, and loose upper control arms.

I've found the walk-through for replacing the upper control arms and/or bushings (thanks for that, btw) and have located a couple of exhaust manis on the intarwebz. Nowhere, however, could I find the air injection tube--is this dealer-only?

I'm hoping that I can have the mani crack welded, since the truck is 20 years old and has nearly 199k on the odometer--I'm sure the bolts/studs are frozen solid. Any hints for dealing with this? I have some PB Blaster, but no access to a torch or anything like that. Also, I'd be doing the work in the back of my apartment building (on gravel-yay!).

PM'd you back. Have you removed the injection tube to see if it's just gummed up? I had a spider living in the one on my Raider, judging from the webs, but I'm sure it didn't survive my first trip home.

It's smooshed in the middle. I'd noticed it a few days ago, but for whatever reason it didn't register. I'm taking a closer look tomorrow--I didn't see any tool marks on it before; in fact, it looked almost like it's *supposed* to be like that.

I keep telling myself that this Raider isn't a Jeep, and I can't fix everything on it with an adjustable wrench and a large hammer.

Welding the cast manifold will be pricy. Car-part.com for a used replacement. While their at it, have them ship you the air tube.

Just for your info. I have 3.0 monty that had 240,000 miles on it when I took the mani's off to replace the heads and gaskets. Some PB Blaster on for a day and they came right off!.

I've almost emptied a can of PB Blaster on the bolts/nuts, and I have another to go tomorrow. I figure twice per day with the PB and I'll be able to give the bolts a whack by Friday-ish.

I used PB on my 1987 exhaust manifold and every bolt came off with no problem with just my socket set (at 270,000 miles). You may not get so lucky, but you never know.

I welded the stocker and the turbo one after cracking both.. no problems afterwards, I would recommend it again.

Make sure you don't over tighten those nuts when you're putting the manifold back on FYI. It will rip the studs right out of the aluminum.
