I don't think its a matter of wanting it, but I bet that suspension costs more than your kia

I would love to add such a set up to my KIA, however the cost would be a stopping point! I have 3 other 'toys' besides the Sporty and for the cost of fab'ing up this set up on the sporty i could get the 426 rebuilt for the Fury or add a Super charger to the MG or get a nice set of 60 spoke wires for the TR3 <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" />

that's 2 sway-away coil-overs per side. that comes to around 12-1500 bucks just for the shock/spring combo. those are machined aluminum upper a-arms, cost unknown, but i would imagine at least 2-300 bucks each. more than likely, they are running really high misalignment rod ends or uniball ball joints, prolly another 100-200 per side, plus about another 120-150 for the rod ends at the frame ends of the upper a-arms. tube work could be an easy 500, plus bumpstops, plus bolts, at least grade8, but maybe f911's. then there's that little steering arm support that would have to have been specially machined for this use, i'd say maybe 100-150 bucks there, per side.

that's at the very, very least, 2500 bucks per side, or 5000 just for the front.

you could easily do fine with one coil-over with a remote reservior, or one coil-over and an external bypass shock, but the bypass shock might be more than another coil-over. you could build new adjustable upper arms from tube and use a balljoint with the same shank or an FK rod end and misalignment spacers. you could get away with just reinforcing the stock strut tower. the knuckle can be easily reinforced with a 1/2" welded plate between the steering arm and upper balljoint mount.

you could build a suspension that would perform similarly for 1/4 that estimate, or you could put a Dana 44 under there for a couple hundred, it's up to you.

never understood reasoning against replacing IFS with a straight axle.

me niether mate.......the front suspension is a good idea in the first place........but there are ways tomake it better and the baja kias i believe have found a way to make it better.........have some spare cash and want to make it better.......and like u said dave .......really the only thing that i have to play with is the top strut mount........a live axle front end for me is the very last resort.......

YOU MEAN FOR THE FRONT CV SHAFTS? SURE, IT CAN BE DONE, BUT WHY? WHEN THE DIFF ISN'T EVEN STRONG ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE SHAFTS IT'S GOT SOMETIMES. IF YOU REPLACE THE DIFF WITH DANA 44 OR 60 CENTER SECTION AND RAN EQUAL LENGTH AXLESHAFTS, THEN RUNNING 4-POINT U-JOINTS OR DUAL CARDAN CV'S WOULD BE WORTH IT, BUT BY THE TIME YOU SPEND THAT KIND OF MONEY, AGAIN, WHY NOT JUST STRAIGHT AXLE SWAP IT AND NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT SO MANY JOINTS BLOWING UP ON YOU?

From what I remember reading, I believe the aussie guys have a major road block when it comes to having a street legal SAS'd vehicle. perhaps it is easier to get away with doing a built up IFS so on paper it is stil IFS and no one cares as much about the engineering and inspection side of things.

I know that after I do my front end in the spring, if i ever decide to move to BC I wont be able to register my sporty. My buddy is having that trouble rite now with his SAS'd toy. It has been relegated to a trailer rig, although it was perfectly fine on the streets here in alberta

100% right defboy.......thee is some major hassles with gettin a sas regoed over here in australia.......for a start it has to be engineered to be registered and one engineer wanted finite element anallisys on my chassis to see if it was capable to handle it ......bugger that.....
really want to make the ifs front end to work hey.......i really give my kia absolute hell when i go bush.......i have done 1 front diff already(only by stupidity) but the only thing that has let go on me since i have had it is a smashed cv (outer)......and i havent even touched those cvs since i have owned it ....and let me tell ya give it to it hey......3 weeks ago i competeed in a mud drag compeition and came second outright......last week i did a photo shoot for a magazine .....(details later) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />
goin thru a mud hole that came over the bonnet........ 2nd gear low range .....and i had it boucin off the limiter ....so that gives you an idea of how hard i drive it .......thats why i would like to find out as much as i can about the baja front ends .......and if all goes to plan.........will have it soon......so i can then share it with who ever else wants it as well......so guys ....if you know how to and where ........could all benefinte everyone in the long run.......

cheers Ads <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
