Don't know if you have this problem before.

My 99 Montero compass backlight was gone. But this doesn't bother me. However I found the voltmeter seems not correct. while the car is running, the voltmeter show a little below 12V. if the car is not running, it is about 9V. I use the multimeter to measure the battery, I got 14.3V when car is running and 12V while not running. I don't have any difficulty to start the car. So, I assume the battery is good. Does this mean bad voltmeter ? anyway to fix it ? or, it is caused by the compass backlight ??
