Looking to see if anyone is interested in an Anza Borrego trip the weekend after New Years. (3 and 4 or 3 or 4 Jan). I'm open and flexible for either a day trip or a two day camp trip, depending on who's available during what times.
As far as trail lineup I'm looking at the main trip being:
Pinyon Mountain, with a right turn in fish creek and looping back UP via Diablo Drop off and back out to S-2 via Canyon Sin Nombre.
If a day two happens we can look at doing calcite mine among others.
Equipment requirements:
I've had an open Montero with 33's through Pinyon before and it only reqired the strap once when climing some loose moguls but an LSD in the rear will be a big help especially if we are climbing up Diablo Drop Off. So I would say at least one traction aid and 31's minimum to keep it moving. We will be going through "The Squeeze" which I've had my SR through a few times with no problem, but realize that body damage is a possibility here, but with spotting is unlikely. Also the Pinyon Mountain trail takes you down whats known as Heart Attack Hill, just so there's no surprises, once you go through the squeeze theres no turning back. You must descend Heart attack to get down the Mountain. Anyways, I hope I didnt scare you off<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />In my opinion this is one of the best trails in the lower portion of So Cal in both scenery and Challenge, read the wells guide if you have it. I think he agrees.

I'm in. Just don't laugh at the 12 person tent I'll set up for just me, my two kids, and a mutt. I'm also flexible for any schedule you pick.
Let's see, Jan. 3 is a Thursday, so your idea is depart Thursday morning, get some wheeling in the afternoon, make camp that night, and either return Friday or, if there's interest, camp out Friday night as well and come back Saturday?

Dirt Driver,
Have you done Pinyon before, Just curious. Your locked front and rear right? This could be fun. Maybe we could do smugglers cave on day 2? I'll have to see how this develops. Not sure if my better half can get these two days off work or not, still working that issue, which may dictate weather or not I can camp out sat night. I'm 100% for all day Sat with my daughter comming along, and a strong possible for Sunday. If you're comming from San Diego, Dudleys Bakery is a good meet up point for Sat Morning, as I'll be comming from the 79 South

Dang , Wish I could be there. I have hiked alot around A-B over the past decade. I was planning on being down there for Feb maybe March, too . Never really 4 wheeled there, just hiking and chacing lizards. I don't know where it's Kosher to 4wheel there.

Nope, haven't done Pinyon yet. All I've done in the area is North Coyote Canyon near Warner Springs. I've had my eye on Diablo Drop Off for awhile, but that's not something you want to do solo! Sounds like a blast. Calcite Mine Trail would be great if there's enough time. There are a lot of great trails in AB.
Yeah, I'm locked both ways, so traction shouldn't be an issue.
Dudley's good for a meet-up point. It was closed for the holidays when I drove by there today (did some hiking in Barker Valley), but they should have some fresh date nut bread when we roll through!
Lookin forward to it mate!

Yes should be fun..Diablo Dropoff..I took my first Montero (86 SWB) down that It scared me a little. Climbed it in my 2nd montero (90 LWB) with LSD and 31's. We should be able to crawl right up with dual lockers, but you never know how the terrain changes over the years and its been about 3 years since I last climbed it. Maybe if oriflame (sp?) canyon is open we can hang a right at banner grade and head in to the park that way. It spits you out onto the S-2 right near the trail head to pinyon and has some nie scenery along the way.
