Best bet is to measure them both before you pull them. Yes its a pia but so is trying to bolt a 12.25 engine to a 13.25 trans or vice versa. I learned about narrow blocks the hard way LOL.

Now I'm more confused than I was before. The only saving grace is that you say that your information may not be complete. I can't place my vehicles in any grouping with any certainty.

Here is what I have, based on my knowledge and vehicle pink slips.

Vehicle 1: 1985 Montero (Sorry, I thought it was an '86, but the pink slip says '85)--Vin JA4FJ43E5FJxxxxxx, auto transmission.

Vehicle 2: 1980 Dodge Colt Wagon-- RWD, 2.6 engine (G54B), standard transmission.

And then there is Vehicle 3 (just to add to the confusion): 1984 Montero, VIN JA4FJ53E3EYxxxxxx, standard transmission.

The chart doesn't list an '85 Montero (vehicle 1) with auto transmission, but it may fall into the first group, with narrow block.

The chart doesn't list an '80 Colt, though I'd tend to put it with the '81 Colt with standard transmission, with wide block.

Vehicle 3, the '84 Montero with standard transmission, seems to fall into two groups, one with narrow block and the other with wide block. Thats a definite maybe.

The chart, btw, is very good, very informative. I've made a copy.

So, we're back to your cautionary statement. The only way to tell, really, is to get under each vehicle and measure.I can do that with the '80 Colt and the '85 Montero. They're here with me. The '84 Montero is in Maine, probably buried in a snowbank.

Please, keep the information coming. All this is stuff I need to know.
