Getting the Wheeling Fever

Okay got the trans out and I noticed the crazy clutch setup that isuzu has. Its a pull system right? How does it work? I never messed with a pull system, and are all the Isuzus like this? This setup has me scratching my head and why didn't they keep it simple and do a push system? Please help.
