Certain job skills will be more helpful if you're still in the working class like me...depending on the area(s) of choice.

I lived in Casa Grande, AZ for 5 years. Housing is inexpensive. Lots of jobs in the Phoenix area. Schools suck, however (I was a high school Science teacher). There is lots of places to hike and off-road. Mountains surround the low desert. I loved the night sky. The low desert of Arizona is actually pretty diverse - lots of plant and animal life, unlike many other places in the southwest where there is only tumble weed and manure piles.

Put a resume together and try for some of the bigger construction outfits. My BIL is General Contractor - Foreman for a big outfit, he is building 12 story Indian Casino right now in Palm Desert. Don't know if they are hiring but I can always ask. You like heat right

The real estate market is going strong in the Salt Lake City, UT area - so I would imagine that construction jobs are relatively abundant. Lots of places to offroad too.
Also - I prefer the dry heat of the deserts over the humid heat of the east coast. 120? @ 11% humidity feels better than 85? @ 90% humidity anyday.
Good luck with your prospective move

I have a contractor friend, does paving, underground, some building pads, etc. that is looking for an estimator. You'd be close to the Rubicon and Dusy-Ershim Trails, Tahoe area...

Arizona's a right-to-work state. Stay away. I'd steer you to NV.

Being a right-to-work state isn't always bad. Colorado is one too and it's actually worked quite a bit in my favor in my current job.
