hah- YOU have the real estate upon which to play. Even Brian can't afford anything last time buying a house was mentioned.
>>>*Well, that is true, Le' and I are lucky in that respect. The family ranch stayed in the family and passed on, for many families that doesn't happen.
Part of that is from my own efforts decades ago when my own Father wanted to sell off some of it for capital. He was 65 at the time and Social Security wasn't a lot for him. I bought the pieces he wanted to sell, made payments for 30 years to my folks.
Very likely I made one of the world's best investments there. We ended up with 313 acres and 5 homes plus another 40 acres of standing timber.
Then timber went way up in price, we logged in 1990 and my investment turned out to be free. The old place is ready to log again, we didn't clearcut, we just took the marketable and let the rest grow.
I was called stupid back then for not clear cutting by some but it turned out differently...*LOL**..
No way could we ever afford to buy this place in today's market. But there are some rental homes on the place, the revenue covers the taxes and costs.
I have been watching Real Estate since we have a 5 3/4 acre ranch and home to perhaps sell. The prices here have actually gone up a small amount while everywhere else I hear the words "Collapse" and "Real Estate disaster"..?
I think if the world ended, it would take Oregonians two years to realize it.
Still, lots more property on the market around here and up North, that is opportunity for folks who plan to move to another area.
Le' and I talked about it, decided to leave the old house vacant and just farm the place each summer, it produces a LOT of food. We like growing it and giving it away to the food bank. I think it will probably just increase in value, if not, we don't care, it's paid for too.
We will make the 3 hour run, spend a few days working, then come home. I can run the online business from here, all I need is my laptop.
It was hard to buy a property back when Le' and I were struggling, I think it is even harder now for the young folks to end up with a place of their own....*EB
