Hey dudette... here is a test for you.. Next time you are on a slippery surface PEEL OUT! then stop and look at your tracks...if BOTH rear wheels have left black marks you have some type of locking rear end. These are definately more use off road and much more dangerous on slippery streets..
If your vehicle slides around in the rain chances are good you DO HAVE a locker in there..
If you find that you have an OPEN rear end then I would look to better RAIN tires for that vehicle..
In my experience jeeps behave pretty much like other short vehicles in the rain.. unless they have a locker and/or tires that don't like the rain.

By the way dudette I don't have a 6 speed but I do have a 5 speed tranny.. I only use 3 gears from start to hiway speed. Depending on the grade being up or downhill I start either in 1 or 2 and then shift to either 3 or 4 and then to 5th for the final gear..
All those gears are for using on particular grades at particular speeds. I'm sure the tranny designer didn't intend for every start to include all 6 gears..
57 Chevy's only had 2 gears in their auto tranny.. And they did fine.

Body Damage is Cool
Wrangirl, if you have a Tractor Supply Company near you, just pick one up before you go wheeling, and I think Harbor Freight might carry them too.

AS Fred B said, don't let not having one stop you from going on your trip. I just suggest that a hi-lift be one of your near-in-the-future purchases.

Have fun and be safe! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />....and pics. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
