I was wondering if anyone has any info on swapping a 4g63 mitsubishi turbo engine into a 92 toyota 4x4?

Thanks,
Brian

>>>*I remember my Daddy telling me that we could put anything into anything if we had a cutting torch and a file....*LOL**..

He was in the process of installing a flathead Chrysler engine and transmission into his 1938 Chevy wagon at the time. Later that very same engine and transmission ended up in our 26' Salmon boat. (Yea, I was a little kid.)

The 4G63 and 4G63T engine by Mitsubishi is a popular little 2.0L DOHC 16 valve design, it likely rivals the 22RE in durability, even popularity. It is found in Hyundai's, Eagles, Eclipses, Galants, on and on.

Folks running those engines are all mildly crazy and think 30# of boost is "normal", in my day if someone ran that much we all got down behind the big white roadgrader tires in the infield.

Yet they handle that and even more, with power numbers of 500 H/P and more being fairly common.

I know a bit about them, since my company has H/P head parts manufactured for them. The weak link there is the timing belt, when it goes it means 16 valves and usually valve guides, too.

The other flaw in your idea is the RPM powerband, I doubt that engine design would work well in the heavier 4 X 4. Perhaps with some serious gearing? The torque curve suggests the best use is in a lighter vehicle, racers use shift points in the 9-10,000 RPM range. More sometimes.

The other concern would be trying to install it, nothing would fit anything.

But? There is that cutting torch and the file... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />...One would sure get attention with say, a dual transfer case, etc?

110 to one gearing, she will climb rocks.

Now if you were building a dune buggy or say...a dragster?....*EB
