1990 pickup 22re 5 speed with A/C I initially wanted to check the timing because the idle has been stumbling and also stumbles during acceleration.
I jumpered Te1 and E1 to check my timing, and the idle was high. Even with the idle screw turned all the way in, it's running at around 950-1000 RPM warmed up. Goes a bit higher when I remove the jumper.
I've got the TPS adjusted correctly. It's throwing a code 43. I'm guessing it's showing that code because I've installed a push button start so the key hasn't been in start every time it's started. That the only code flashing.
Any ideas why the idle is high or what I should look at next?

try burbing the radiator. it sound like there is are in the throttlebody where the coolant gos. also check your hoses right there for leaks. you can see if the t stat is working when you burb the rad

Burp the radiator. Put the truck on an uphill incline or a couple 2x4's. Take the radiator cap off and run the truck for about 20 minutes with the heat turned ON (circulates the core). Air will find the highest point at the radiator.
We consider this to be a good practice if messing with the coolant system/head.

How much of an incline is needed to do this? I tried it in my driveway (steepest thing around) and didn't notice any change in the idle. Do I need to elevate the front more?

See this topic - I had the same issue and I went through just about everything in order to figure it out.

D'oh!!!! I had this same issue a few years back and forgot all about the throttle body. Gonna have to give that a try when I get home. Good thing I slowed down on drinking when I did. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> Thanks for the reminder
