Is there a good way to remove a stripped crank bolt? My 6pt broke and spun on the bolt when I had the breaker propped against the ps frame... now nothing works... rounded off bolt.

dangit.

Some options:

1. Weld a nut to the head of the bolt.

2. Pound a slightly smaller sized socket onto the stripped bolt head, or get one of those bolt-remover sockets.

3. Use a cutoff wheel to notch the washer and bolt flange and use a hammer and chisel to break the bolt loose with the chisel in one of the notches.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Air hammer with a sharp chisel bit, and an air regulator to keep it under control, and to use a minimum of force.

Thanks Roger!

I knew I should have asked for a welder for Christmas

I went and got a 6pt 3/4 socket... tapped it on w/a hammer. Nice and snug. Wish me luck.

the 6pt 3/4 snapped like it was nothin... luckily had a cheapy NorthernTool 6pt 19mm impact that seems a little under sized. Bumped the starter w/that on it and it came right out. Now on to the TC cover & headgasket replacement.

never pound nothing on the crack,,you can destroy thr thrust on the crank

Here is another, by cutting the flange it relives the pressure and you can remove it with your fingers.

On a related note, are crank bols on all engines supposed to be replaced every time you remove them? I know this is the case with the 5vzfe, but not sure on other engines.

My crankbolt was made in 1979. Pulley was removed numerous times. Maybe I'm lucky, but I do use the right tools on it, as well as the proper torque too.
