Depends on where ya live and how rusty it is.
Make sure it's the pump and not a fuse or relay or somthin.
You may have allready checked it I appologize don't be mad if I insulted you inteligence. Job isn't bad if the tank is empty, It usually involves a jack and a make shift platform for the jack to lower the tank some swearing at the filler tube and fuelines an extra person to help swear with you I havn't done a Jeep but I've dropped quite a few tanks in other Vehicles, Disconnect the Battery,
Get a book on the truck some autostores here in Michigan carry a program called "All Data" The guys here will usually print up what it takes to do a project.
If you got the tools and detrmination it's just another notch on the belt for fixin stuff on a car.

Good luck!!

No worries. I took it to a shop i trust to get it checked out before i bought it.
apparantly it has a delayed start, so you have to crank it a couple times before it fires up. the shop said it was the fuel pump, something about the fuel going back into the gas tank and not cutting off like a GOOD fuel pump should do. does that make sense?
I live in MN, so its gonna be rusty as hell, but either way when my vehicles arent running tip top, it really frustrates me.....

Did they put a preasure check on the fuel line?
I've not heard of that one. My expierence they work or they don't. I'm sure someone on the forum will know more. I think the knowledge base here is really good.
Hows the weather there? We hit 60 in Pontiac,Mi. today (strange)

it is bleeding the gasoline back into the tank when not running.. To test it do this: Before starting turn the key to the RUN position to make the pump start.. Then after a 5 count hit the starter.. If it starts easier thataway you have found the problem.. This small problem does not indicate a need for changing a fuel pump in winter time..
It should last many more months..or years..

What a great tip, Lynx! Thanks a million on that! Just out of curiousity, I looked up a TSB I knew would be there on my 03 HD which has a clunking felt in the steering column. Found out its pretty simple to fix and requires a lube kit from GM which includes a replacement clip that has probly come loose. Whats even more amazing....well not really, that this is an obvious defect from GM but since it probly wont kill any body, its not a recall, just a money makin TSB. I have had two 03's and an '05 GM trucks and they all did it. It must be a serious money maker for the shops or they woulda fixed it by now, lol. Thanks again! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

Hey Bama read futher... There is a new intermediate steering shaft that replaces the thumping one on all chevy trucks from 99 up.. I think the clip repair was the older method that don't work..
The part number is Chevy P/N 19153614 For the shaft released just about one year ago..

Is that the groan I hear (and feel) when turning at slow speeds? Happens to me mostly when jocking around to hitch up the trailer.
