Need a Spot
Hey guys, im new here and new to four wheeling we'll except for on 4 wheelers. I have recently acquired a 1993 Eddie Bauer Explorer 4x4. I have been looking around at different sites and noticed that there are not a whole lot of explorers hitting the trails. I was wandering if there is a reason for this that I am not aware of? I have been trying to decide if I wanted to keep it for a toy/hunting truck or slap a for sale sign on it. Any and all info will be greatly appreciated. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Body Damage is Cool
One of the issues with Explorers is that a lot of them have rather restricted ground clearance, especially in the rear. The clearance below the differential is that bad compared to other stock SUV, but the rear shock mounts are quite low and tend to get knocked of if you're going in the rocks or over trail obstacles. Of course, it's not that hard to re-configure the shocks and mounts.

heh, they are IFS front for one. And unibody i believe? So its not an ideal canadate for a SAS swap. And they rust so bad its not worth it anyhow. Not to mention ground clearence, strength of driveline components, not a true 4x4 trans, and lack of offroad parts made for it.

Not unibody, it has a frame. It's based off the Ford Ranger. And it has a true transfer case, a Borg Warner 1354 to be exact.
