Just purchased this 91 that needs tranny work. First and foremost it goes in reverse just fine, Forward slips bad but sometimes engages.
Heres the specs on the rig: 91 Jeep Wrangler 6Cyl 4.0L High Output engine Unsure what the tranny is just yet
When I picked it up, we added some tranny fluid (most of which poured straight to the ground) the little that must have got in did give us a little forward, but not enough to get it up the trailer.
So now heres my thoughts:
1. Filter and pan gasket need changed. We did this once with a buick with the same issue and it fixed it.
2. The filler tube is cracked OR not fully seated in the tranny? possibility?
3. Tranny is burned out, need a new one.
I had a lead on a tranny, but after doing a little digging think that it will not fit my wrangler. It comes from a 91 Cherokee.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ken

I believe that BJ was correct in that it is a 32RH. But this page says that those were used in 92-95. But the site also does not list one for a 91 YJ. web page

Yeah the guy that had the other tranny told me that it was T999 that I needed.
I guess the only way to find out is to pull the jeep onto the pad and get under there and look. I'll try to do that tomorrow.
I do have a lead on a 91 Wrangler transmission, are there any changes during the year that I should be cautious of? Was there a specific date when they changed from 21 to 23 teeth on the spline? (If thats the correct verbage).

Ah...the site does list the 91 as a T999.

Ok I went to that site and I was incorrect I guess... Anyways the 999 is a really good tranny. I think it was used in some v8 applications.. I'd be looking to rebuild it. Big Jim

Gotta love craigslist.
Found someone with a 91 Wrangler willing to part with his working tranny (Still running in the rig) and a steering column from a 93, and he's willing to barter. Should be thursday or saturday and I'll have em.
Figure I'll put the working tranny up into my jeep, and take the other one and send it to the shop for a looksee. If its worth spending a few hundred bux overhaulin, I may just to have a spare laying around.
