Need a Spot
Ok, please don't strike me for not using the search button on this one.

I have a set of 31x10.5or15's on a set of aftermarket rims. I don't like the rims, but my brother-in-law does. So I am thinking about selling him the rims and taking his stock rims.

now, If I take the stock rims, I want to put the 31's on but I'm not sure if they will fit or not.

Does anyone know if the 31x10.5x15's would fit stock rims?

His jeep is a 91 Wrangler Sahara edition, mine is just a 91 wrangler.

Thanks,

Ken

I believe the rim width is 7 inches. If that is the case then yes, they will fit.

You shouldnt have a problem but when you put the wider tire on the narrower rim, you may have problems with runnin with them aired down so be careful and slow down when you get in a situation where the tire might roll off the rim. When they are aired up, your tires will be slightly taller too than when you had em on the aftermarket rims if they were wider. When you squeeze the middle of the tire in, it has a tendency to make the ends squeeze out. This being said, if you had any scrub problems with the tires before, they will only get worse. But what the heck, gives you a good excuse to put a lift on!!

Airing down with 31's is kinda pointless IMO. 31's don't provide enough EXTRA ground clearance to warrant losing a little clearance when aired down. Just my 2ó

Brownie, interesting comment; agreed that airing down reduces ground clearance. But, if a less jarring ride and/or more traction is desired, airing down is the thing to do. The four wheeler just has to be a little more thoughtful in selecting his/her route (line) through or over a trail obstacle. Four wheeling requires skills and experiences beyond normal highway driving, don't ya think?

To answer your question, yes they will fit. The only problem you will have is the inside edge of the front tires will rub the springs at full lock. No big deal, just annoying. An aftermarket rim with a little less backspace will cure that, but will also make the tire stick out past the fender flare. Personally I like the look of a fat tire on the stock rim of a non lifted Jeep.
But I'm weird

Well that brings up another question... How can I tell if this puppy has a lift on it or not? I don't know how it looked before they put the tires on it...

Seems to me that if the rims I have are 8in wide, then the next set of rims for those tires should also be 8in. Instead of putting them on the stock rims. I'd rather run with the right rim for the tire, than have to worry about the rubber walking off when its a little deflated.

So, how can I tell if this thing has a lift or not? Anyone got a cheap set of rims forsale ;-) ?

Thanks,

Ken

I ran 31's on 15x8's for years ,then went back to 7"s.The pic you see is with them.
Actually, I think they fit the 7"s better. The bead keeps tighter on 7"s.
