With the '97 waiting to go into shop #2 to try and find out what has blown the ECU and power transistor, I'm starting to contemplate the unthinkable. Is there life after Monteros?

If there were no Montys and you wanted a off-road capable 4-door that was also good for long-distance highway travel, what would you buy today?

even though it's axles are slightly weaker than the Montero i'd go for a mid 90's FZJ80 with factory lockers front and rear, or if i could find one a 60's nissan Patrol just for the gigantic size of it's axles 1.5" shaft dia and 37 spline
those trucks are bomb proof. If we had 90's model GU patrols here in america i would get one of those over the montero, but i'd still have a couple montero as backup!

I know you said 4dr but i'm not a 4dr fan so i'm down with the 60's patrol.

I kinda like the look of the new Toyota FJ Cruiser. That being said, If I had the $24k to buy a new FJ Cruiser I would probably buy another montero and a mid 80's FJ60 and still have loads money left over for maintenance and upkeep!

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

Larry, all I get is a red x, but unless it was a 600GelandewagenEinspritzer AMG in $ilver, it wasn't the right one...

Practically, 97 'cruiser with lockers and s/c. I've found one with s/c, and one with lockers, and I can't afford to buy two and mate them. Make good money off the puppies, though...

Not responsible for advice not taken...

What about a Mercedes Unimog? Those come in 4 doors (double cab).
Are the Nissan Safari's the same as the Patrols? I've seen a few of those up here.
