The rear window was working fine then my driving lights started cutting out, so I reached up under the dash on the left side to see if there was a loose wire - Now the rear window won't work on the switch or key. Everything else still works (the driving light problem was the ground wire by the light) so I need to know specifically what wire could have done that. I have reread 4crawler's rear window fixes but I have poor eyes and schematics give me headaches.

THANKS!

May have disconnected a power feed wire for the rear window. Time to break out the volt meter or a test light and start where you were messing around at:
http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/RearWindow.shtml#Troubleshooting

And try disconnecting your driving lights (assume they were added). They may have something to do with the problem if they were not wired up properly.

The driving light are fine and have been on for along time, the ground wire for one had gotten corroded. What I need to know is when I look under the dash, which wire would be power wire for the motor (what color)?

Thanks

Could it be some random, wacky coincidence that the rear widow stopped working sometime around the time you were under the dash? How long after when you fixed the lights did you notice the back window would not work?

Did you check the connector at the back right of the truck (the one for when you take off the top)?

I once tore all into my console trying to figure out why my back window stopped working. Man, was I embarrassed to discover that the connector simply popped loose.

You know when I am at the coast (1hr west from my house) I can look across the Pacific where 5000 miles of open ocean separate me from Japan, which is EXACTLY where my rear window answer came from. Yes, it was in fact a "Whacky Coincidence" that my rear window stopped working after I put my hand up under my dash. It would appear that the proliferation of gear I keep in back had pushed against the rear door or lock and kept the window from operating. Having pulled stuff out of there to check things out I pushed on the rear door from the outside and fiddled with the lock and now it works with both the key & switch.

Next time I am at the coast I will be waving at you bloodbath4runner

Thanks!

Glad to be of assistance!
Actually, right now, you'll need to turn and face the east coast... half a year here, half a year in Japan.

Hopefully you didn't need to take apart as much of yours as I did mine

The same thing happened to mine. The tailgate latches have to click twice when it closes. Somehow the left latch only clicked once and the power was cut off to the motor. There's also a switch under one of the bolts that holds the hard top on (third from the back on the driver's side, I think) If that bolt isn't in, the window won't move.

since Salmonhead solved his problem maybe it will be ok to hijack his post

My rear window was working fine and i loaded a bunch of stuff into the bed of the runner. When I hopped back in to put up the window it would go up halfway and come to a dead stop. it seemed it was getting stuck somewhere. On this runner I can't close the window with the key.

I had a buddy of mine pull up on the window as I hit the up button and we were able to get the window shut. he said it seemed like it was geting stuck somewhere but could not see where.

Anyone else have this halfway closing problem? It goes down fine but gets stuck about halfway up. If the key worked I could look and see as I closed/opened it but I don't have that luxury.

Any advice would be appreciated

Jim

You'll probably get more responses with a new thread since many figured this one is fixed and may have quit reading it...
