Body Damage is Cool
after i put on my lce headers i felt like i lost torque below 2k, but maybe it's my imagination. upper rpm acceleration was improved though.

I felt the header didn't do much lce...

to have a do over...
I would take the stock one clean out the casting edges, grind it to match the head using the gasket, then put in an old o2 sensor and haul it down and have the inside sand blasted. Clean up the 2 into one part. go with 1/4 inch larger pipe or what ever slips over the out side of the stock right at the 2 into 1 part. because of the reduced size when they bend it (to tuck it up nice and tight) no cat if you can get away with it, and a quiet low back pressure muffler.

your biggest power gain is in weight reduction.
my wife and I both have 85 fuel injected trucks.
they are other wise set up about the same.

my wife's stock motor, exhaust in an 85 reg cab. 4.10 gears, 4.7 marlin's in the transfer vs dual cases, 34 inch tires.

will out run my modified motor,(2200.00$), waste of about 1200.00, (I spent money on the motor, arp bolts, built the motor to take up to 8000 rpm.. ect,,, lc header, big exhaust, dual cased, 5.29 gears, 36 inch tires, with about 350 pounds of parts in the tool box.

[Linked Image]

mine is the 3rd toyota I have built and hers is the 4th.
we have less then 1/3 the amount of money in hers then mine.
other then the paint job I often think hers is the better of the two.

what I guess I am getting at is that any where you can save money,,,, like an expensive header that won't do much, gives you money to spend on things that will. like lower axle gears, transferase gears. bud built skid plates. for the price of your header you can buy a bud built skid plate, or 4.7 gears for the transfer case... hydro assist steering is 180 bucks.. stuff like that.
now if I pulled out,, or emptied the tool box. then the power story would be different.

sorry I am assuming that you are looking for a fun, cheap, rock crawling build.

Your last paragraph is dead on!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I'll take my 4.7 Xfer case gears over some header and intake kit any day <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

85 4Runner - With NEW Marlin 4.7 Gears!! It's a whole new beast!

yep,, it is even almost the same color as mine used to be..
spend your money on gears, or skid plates. heck a winch is getting down to around 450 500 for a warn.
these are 4 cylinders, unless you dump alot, and I mean alot of money into them they are not going to be all that much over your stock or re ringed junk yard motor.. if you want more power. an RV cam is in my opinion is your best money.
even with or with out my home made snorkle these motors only put out so much. but when I or my wife shift down to around 100 to one on the gears the tires turn or the axles break. well not anymore since we went with the 30 spline longs and hub gears.

sorry but my bling bling motor donsn't have much more power then her unknown motor. and her motor came sitting in the back of the truck for free.

if you are interested I took alot of pictures this last time.
photo bucket and search for missouriman.

as for the header, I won't buy another for these motors.
at the lower trail RPM'S I just don't see it.
now above 4500 rpm like in mud racing I can see it.

but low gears for the rocks.

Gears are something i would like to do but this is still my daily mode of transportation. I know i want to put bigger tires than 33' and i will when i have another vehicle to go with it. And i don't really go rock crawling or mudding at all. So with the gears i am just going to wait on that part.
Kinda the same story with the skid plates.

The Motor that i have in here now has a 3 year 75,000 mile warranty and so far with on 6k only it i think putting the cam in might void the warranty, but i'll have to check on that.
So thats why i was thinking the Headers would be a good idea
