Need a Spot
Hey Guys,

It's been a while since I have been on the forum. My Trooper has been humming away fine til this past summer when I experienced a cracked head or blown head gasket. Not sure which. The Trooper still runs fine except for the overheating. I have to keep the heater running full blast to keep from overheating which is fine in the Winter but not so good in the Summer. I have decided to take the opportunity to do the 3.4 upgrade. I need to know if anyone knows the exact part number for the exact Good Wrench HT Crate engine that works in the Trooper. I have decided to go with the new long block since I am keeping the Trooper in the family forever. I also need to know if anyone knows where to get the best price on this engine. Thanks.

You could check with your local GM dlr just to see what kind of deal they'll make. Don't tell them it's for a Trooper though, tell them it's going in a 1985 Blazer or Jimmy 4X4. That way they won't get their Knickers in a Knot about using the motor in a TBI application. Don't pay any attention to the GM legal-ese regarding this motor not being rated for TBI use, it works just fine with a few 'tweaks' and probably burns cleaner than any old 2.8 (as long as all the emissions controls are retained and functioning correctly).

Here's a few places to check out online, maybe one of them is close to you, saving shipping charges:

Here's another GM site with more info, including a dyno chart:

Plug your Zip Code into the dlr locator to find the various dlrs in your area.

BTW, if you haven't already asked for the packet of swap info, send me a Private Message with your e-mail address listed and I'll forward the files to you.

Howdy,

Just to make sure, you do have a V6 trooper, right? The only reason I ask is because if it is a 4cyl it will add a whole new dimension to putting a 3.4 in her.
