OK! Think I broke about 2" off the top of the rear drivers spring. And I'm running with Dennis 2" spacers. The cost of a pair of rear TJ springs is less than a pair of stock ones. Am I right in thinking that the TJ's will give a 3" lift so if I remove the spacers and run with TJ's I'd get an extra 1" in the rear?

from what I have figured out the tj's are about 3" higher than stock springs AND stock tires. so I am not sure how much higher the springs alone actually lift it. My tj springs are the 2nd highest spring rate out of about 5 versions. (105AA) from a hard-top v6 model.

so you may not gain any height with the tj spring, you just wouldn't need spacers

I think that it just broke.

A friend of mine who had a Sportage ---- broke the rear stock spring ---- just from driving normal!

I would use Dennis spacers on a pair of rear Eibachs!!!!

Cost effective and cause it works........

I guess stock rear springs must be pretty weak, funny now that I think about it, I remember hearing about other people breaking them in the past!

As for the Eibachs, I owned a set, the fronts worked well but the rears I ditched right away, too soft for my taste, plus saggy as hell! Pretty soon the rear was lower than the front, which is not a look I like

I think the TJ springs have them beat...

ive heard of 2 other instances of stock springs breaking and they didnt even go off road. i threw my stock ones away.thought i could help someone out by giving them to them, and realized id be doing them more of a favor by not letting them waste there time with them.

the rear eibachs work well in conjunction with the kyb shocks which have extra nitrogen (so it says in description)and they definitley pushed back real hard when you would compress them by hand.couldnt hardly do it. thats probably why mine hasnt sagged yet.doesnt feel too soft to me. i think it feels just right.doesnt roll too bad in corners.articulates real well.

the thing ive noticed about sports. we can go through a field at like anywhere from 20 40 mph and it feels reel smooth. you can look in the door rearveiw mirror and see that the back wheel is moving up and down a crap load. and look out window and see the fronts just soakin it up.

i hear "DAKAR" callin my sport.

LOL so true... Story time...

My parents live down this really long street that has a ton of really bad speed bumps on it.

Everyone is always annoyed driving over these speed bumps because they are so harsh and jarring.

One of the first things I noticed when I bought my new Sportage was that I went over one of those "evil speedbumps" and... I hardly felt it! It was like going over a tiny bump!

My Dad was riding with me and he couldn't believe it, he was going on and on about how smooth the bumps felt!

Later I was riding with him in his Ford Escape and we went over the same speed bumps and it was like WHANG! OUCH!!!

Hehe...

I kinda missed that on my 96 sportage because I had put some Mazda MPV rear springs in, and they were too stiff and made the rear not flex enough.

I hope the RSG springs are soft enough to be able to soak up bumps like the stock ones, but I imagine they must be somewhat stiffer than stock, I just hope they are not as bad as the MPV ones.

I sold a stock spring to a guy that broke one while just driving down the road. Shipped it to him in Siapan!!! TJ springs are usually available from 25-50 on ebay or better yet craigslist. Got all 4 for 30 bucks!
The ride is better than stock and the lift is nice too. Just remember to get longer shocks (RAV4 1999 rears work).
Good luck!

Unless I'm mistaken I believe the RSG kit comes with rear shocks.

Unless...are we talking about the $750 kit or the cheaper one that's just springs?
