Just wondering if there's a way to swap in new axles in the front without having to separate the spindle from the upper/lower control arms? Every time I do that on any car, the ball joint seals get gouged, meaning new joints, and that's just another PITA.
This is on an 85 Gen I.

I've done it with leaving the lower connected. the top will have to be separated. You should be able to seperate them without damaging the ball joint dust boot. You have to unbolt the ball joint and strike the knuckle with a BFH (hammer) the combination of spring load of the tortion bar on the lower arm and the hammer smashing usually pops it right out.

On the passenger side you can do it without poping it. Its tight but can be done.

If you do pop them you may as well go ahead and do the GenII UCA swap. I see you run 33's so you probably want a little more lift for playing.

Actually, I swapped a buddy of mine with a Taco for his 31x10.50s on nice aluminum MTs recently. Yeah, they're smaller, but they look better on the truck, and no fender rub. It also has much better driveability and will actually keep up with most vehicles on the highway now. I may look into the UCA swap anyways though. Thanks!

I might just wait till I *really* have to replace them. The boot is split wide open, but I drive the truck rarely, and it's been like that since I got it a year or so ago.
