So when wegonna go wheelin' guys? Clay? Pat? Adam? Kevin? Anyone else who really wants to wheel with this group? Lets get some runs going! I have unknown trails up on four peaks, got the trail in bulldog that I refuse to say the name of till we are there, got Elvis (which I really want to get you guys on) and a bunch more. Lets see if a Montero can wheel Extacy, I know -my- jeep can't do it, you gotta be fully locked and a damn good driver! We also need to go out to Hackberry and wheel the Chevy hill loop out there. I am supposed to be getting my tax return this week and I am going to pick up brand new tires for my Jeep, I also am going to get some metal to build my jeep frame and I will be ready to roll (wish I had the money for gears and lockers).
Knock it off with that fake buthcer jones wheelin' guys! We aren't in high school anymore!

Hey butcher is the closest thing to my house that isn't too difficult to test new gear on. James isn't exactly a "wheeler" and my truck still has a ways to go till its ready for the "real" stuff. Plus I like to go out there just to get away from the city YO! But the locker was awesome. I really need new tires. Damn jeep guys, your all the same <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> So anyway Tay u should remember that some of us don't have jobs, or do but not a whole lot of time on the weekends like me and lord trunks or a whole lot of money to spare also like me. On top of that maybe pick trails that it is possible for the ill-equiped could make it through such as mine <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

If james does any other trails aka trails with challenge and rocks pretty sure his tires will pop but maybe thats what he needs so he gets some new tires that have a real tread pattern i see him as a bfg a/t guy. Anyway i can't plan on any hardcore trips intill after utah in april. John H and i will be hiting a trail next month sometime to make sure his arb locker and MM winch are in full working order be for Utah.

Guys, how can I tighten down my crank bolt and the cam bolt on my 2.6 without spinning the engine? Is there some magical place to put a drift pin or should I attempt to hold one while tightening the other?

Lets wheel Elvis you poor under equipped mitsu guys! That trail is so much fun because it has a ton of optinal lines from mild to damn! It is still my favorite trail. One Elvis run I was on I took my brother in law in his tracker, it is lifted about one inch with some 32" a/t tires, no lockers and stock. He wheeled the whole trail and only needed a tug once. He was also playing in the hard lines! It is a good trail, if need be I will sponsor some gas! It is in FJ and perfect for testing parts before Utah!
And Toasty, can I tell them the trail name that we want to go on?

John B. Use an impact! I know on the cam shaft itself there isa place to put a wrench and hold it from moving, but you have to have the top end off the motor to get to it. If you have your timing belt in place then tighten them untill the motor spins, why do you not want it to spin? Even when it spins you should be able to tighten it and reach your torch spec.

what i did was took a crap belt on put a screw driver in it right at the crank pulley so as it wants to turn it pulls the screw driver in and won't turn(jams it up) Tay the 2.6 has a timing chain not belt.

And as far as Bulldog...aren't there STRICT instructions not to deviate from the trail? Or do you WANT it to be permanently closed?
I have a CB, too. Can I be in your "club?" Hahahaha.
Haven't seen a timing belt on a 2.6. An impact is the obvious choice, but I haven't stabbed the distributor yet. I need it to be held still while I torque it, and all the drive belts are on it. Any other ideas?

put something in the drive belt like a rag and it'll jam up like LT said. So this means you've been working on your truck? you go Johnny!

John B. Timing belt/chain, same f'in thing guys, come on! It is even easier to do with the chain! And as for bulldog canyon area, yes, very strict rules, you have to have passes to even wheel there. Good thing is, Mr. Jonh, this is a trail. I would never go blazing through the desert and random washes and risk losing our awsome wheeling areas! But thanks for the small lecture! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> Of course you can be in our CB club! That just makes us better than everyone else! So when are we going to plan a trail run on Elvis?
