HOLY CRAP!! I just checked the Az State Trust Land Dept. website for permit information. Fees went from $15 - individual/$20 - family to $50/$75 for one year. Ummm, I'm thinking about taking my chances. I've never been asked to produce one, just always thought I'd play fair and get one just in case. This is ridiculous!

FYI, the $50 permit is just for one person. Everyone in the truck would have to have one. $75 covers two adults, presumably a "family," plus kids under 14 (no limit specified).

The Wells Guide, as well as Arizona Backcountry Adventures books both tell you when a trail you're taking crosses this land, and it's all over the place.

What does this money (presumably) get used for? Grading roads, signs, enforcement, etc. And maybe rescues. Sure we've been spoiled, but WOW! I think we all know that the fees will never be reduced now that they have gone up.

Have any of you ever been asked to show one while on State Trust Land? Are you now or have you ever even purchased one? Just curious.
