you can get park passes for free so if you split the prices between the trust and park permits it's not so bad, it's like half off. The park passes cover up to 6 people i think.

With the budget troubles that the states have, they might tighten up on this one. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" /> What is the fine if you are caught w/o a STL tag? At least you can buy a yearly tag, and be on your way.

In Utah it's the state school land trust, (or something like that) and the areas are like a checker-board all over. The fees are collected on how much land you cross. The money goes into school funding, the trails may just get <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />. For now it is only collected on groups, and formal runs, EJS, Early Bronco, Toyota, ect. I know of one group that has recived a letter threating legal action, but the trust is not clear on how much money they want. The cost for these runs are growing, insurance is another factor. I don't mind some "Pay to Play" as long as the $ is well spent. Utah may be on it's way to killing the off-road sport, I hope AZ and CO are not going the same way. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Would like to get a chance to check out the AZ wheeling action one of these days!

Hope I haven't pushed this thread into the political area! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

The AZ State Trust Land is held in the trust until sold for schools, just like your state. By mandate, it has to be sold for the maximum amount, so there's been little cronie-ism going on with that. Until recently, some of the closer-in parcels had sold for a million dollars an acre!

So, again, how many of you AZ guys have ever purchased one? Has anyone ever been asked to produce one?

You mean drum brakes, solid metal dashboards, steering columns that can impale you...and no seat belts? Oh, wait, that would be MY Dad's era...

Here's a link to AZ trust land maps. All the blue squares are parcels of STL. Arizona State Trust Land Interactive Map

Hey, Toaster, would you be available Friday if Paul is around up in Clarkdale? He usually works M-Th, but my friend who would drive one of my two vehicles back works M-F, so I wouldn't be able to go up until Saturday. Just curious. And, yes, I would have you drive the SR, not the Scion. Lunch included...

John B.

What about saturday or sunday? maybe friday afternoon sometime?

Depends on how the SR works out this week. There are mechanical problems and the front part of the engine is apart. See Tech section...

If it's not Friday, I have an option over the weekend.

I am with you on the state trust land issues. I used to purchase them to go out, but I no longer will, I am going to take the chance. I have never been asked to show my permit and I have only seen one ranger out there before. I can't believe the prices went up that much, I could see a few bucks but thats alot!

I wish I had the cash to buy up that land, I would let you guys wheel for free!
