The first step would be to find a motor and figure out everything you need to do the swap. Then probably look into what you can buy used or what you have to buy new. From personal experience, motor swaps are not no easy project, you might want to keep In mind that motor swaps are very time consuming and expensive. I personally think the best thing to do would be to get to know your truck the way it is now before trying to tackle a project that could take you years.

pffft. It took you years cause you needed to be cattle prodded to get moving

If you have everything you need transmission; Bell housing; linkages, etc then it should take no more than two days. Like Paj said start by finding out how much of your existing stuff will work and find out what you need, then try finding it used and then go for new.

On a side note, me and Pa_Jero put his new Weber on and it was relatively a painless kit. I was very impressed that everything was there and no modifications for anything! The best part is that when you give it gas it wistles Probably got something to do with the aerodynamics and passing through the venturi. But none the less its awesome!

Freakin' A, I am grounded, for now. I decided to do some maintenance on my Scion before it gets called back into duty as an everyday driver (I was driving about 30K miles per year and can expect the same when I go back to work). I did the basic oil change and tire rotation, then thought it was time to change the transmission fluid & filter, plus change out the coolant and put in new engine/transmission mounts, as the original ones were shot about 50K miles ago. After conditioning my hair with transmission fluid as I dropped the pan, I quickly realized that the NAPA kit I had purchased was all wrong for the auto tranny...wrong filter, wrong gasket. So I went to the dealer and had to order the parts...not in stock, and I'm not putting it back together with the old stuff. So, I'm sitting here with my car on ramps, no tranny fluid in, pan off, coolant out. It'll go back together quickly once I have the right stuff, but until then...

Has anyone ever used 'Water Wetter?' I bought a bottle to add in with my long-life coolant and distilled water to go back in the system once I button it back up. I've heard good things about it in the past, but just wanted to hear more from someone here in the desert.

In the meantime: Cheers. And good work, Toasty and ClayTK.

Not in the desert, but... I've used it with good results in circle track cars. Distilled water and water wetter only yielded ~8 degrees cooler than water alone. If that helps.

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

Well, I am back on the road again. Found out that the transmission "filter" really isn't a filter at all. Not sure what its real purpose actually is, but I just cleaned it and stuck it back in with new Toyota transmission fluid and a new pan gasket (19 little bolts). Circulated distilled water in the cooling system and drained that back out, then refilled with distilled, Water Wetter and long life coolant mix. Then I degreased the underhood area and called it done for now.

Then I changed the oil and filter on my renter's Ford (remote filter, stock, not easy to find at first), six quarts, jeez...

Today, I am going to try replacing the three engine/transmission mounts on the Scion and I will be ready to hit the pavement again. I have been shifting into neutral at every stop now for a couple of years due to the vibration that just drives me crazy. It's even worse with the a/c on. It won't be easy getting to all the bolts on these things, though.

Thanks, Paul, but I have the time and the helper right now, so I'll give it a go today. I can also use my motorcycle lift to support the engine after I get the center bolts out of the mounts. "Shouldn't" be too bad...famous last words...
