Well on my way home from work this morning i was sitting at the light on the offramp and smoke started pouring out i jumped out and looked under the truck tranny was boiling over!! Well guess my a/t temp sensor is toast or the bulb is cause it was working but didn't today from the trail that i left looks like it started boiling within the last mile of my exit. I didn't have my fire extinguisher in my truck ooh and the fluid was catching fire btw i just didn't open my hood to give it any air so it went right out i was really thinking i was gonna watch it go up in smoke for a couple minutes I let if finish boiling over i pulled up on the shoulder for bout 10-15 minutes checked the level then drove up the street checked the level again keeps reading full so i drove the rest the way home, i'm gonna check it again after i wake up. I don't get it it wasn't slipping i've wheeled it truck a bunch over the last couple months i drive it work in 118 deg and it over heats at 4 am?? I don't know if i over filled it or my cooler is clogging up i'm gonna dig into it, looks like i'll be driving the car this week.

well stayed up couple extra hours and just went out drove around to warm things up then checked fluid level its down now its not low but just on the bottom mark so maybe needs half bottle to top off but i'm still wondering why it over heated. I checked the a/t temp bulb its good so sensor went to crap, so i'm not gonna drive it even with if i put a fire extingushier in it i'm gonna have to put a tranny gauge on it and watch the temps. Think i may pickup a laser pyrometer(can't remember exact name) to see if the cooler is doing its job or if the tranny is just F'd.

Maybe it still had some water inside the hydraulic system and it has slowly worked its way out. You might have gotten all the water out but without taking it apart you can never know for sure. It might just need a few more flushes try having mikeys old lube shop reverse flow it out then look in the old oil for signs of water. Lets just hope if it is water it wasn't trapped behind seals somewhere slowly cavitating its way out into the transmission. What's your thought Tay?

If there is still water in there i'd say its f'd cause i've put alot of miles on it since utah, i've been to flagstaff and back 3 or 4 times since then and like i said i drive it to work every day and work isn't close by. I think i'm gonna drain it drop the pan and see whats in it. Oh and mike sold the lube shop to deon.

Man, thats suppossed to be a hard one to over heat, isn't it? If it was caused by trapped water I would say that there are definately some internal seals that are now not good. I would pull the pan just like you said and look everything over, pull the filter off and inspect it real well. I have a case of ATF here, the correct stuff for the mitsu so you don't have to go drop the cash on fluid. Filters and gaskets aren't that expensive.

My best guess though is there is a cooler issue. I would flush out the cooler lines and cooler at the same time you pull the pan. If need be we can rebuild that tranny ourselves, its a very simple tranny.

I put the thermo meter on it cooler is working but my cat converter is working even harder at super heating the tranny lines up to what i got was over 250 deg both in and out so it must be filled with river silt that is now a clay pot inside the cat. So i'm gonna pull it out then make a straight pipe for it and I bet the tranny will run under 160 degs. I hate cats. BTW the tranny lines run inbetween the exhaste Y before the cat for those who don't know thats why its getting super heated from mister cloged cat bet my truck will run cooler too now.

That would definately hurt your tranny fluid! Are you not going to run a cat now? Emissions?
