I bet the snow got to the sensor and is causing it to fail. Mine come on shortly after driving through some mud and would stay on all the time.

Best way to tell is to leave the car for a while, or overnight and then if it comes on immediately when you turn it on in the morning you know it's the sensor because they tranny is completely cool.
