Has anybody looked at trying the Jeep liberty front struts and forks to lift the front of the Sportage?
I was working on a Liberty that came into work yesterday. I was checking out the front struts and they use a fork style lower strut mount like the sportage. I didn't get a chance to take measurements (boss would have had a cow) if he saw me under a customers car with a tape measure.

why would a tape measure under a customers car get you in trouble? Not like you were wheeling a cut off torch up to it!
Sportage sold......... 1999 4runner 4x4 , Tundra brake rotors and calipers (well worth it!) -wifes

i have LOOKED at them, but never taken a measurement. i guess what we'd need to know is if the lower end of the fork would mate up to the Sportage's lower A-arm. if so, the strut tower could easily be re-drilled if the bolt pattern is off.

LEt us just suppose that it would work....then what?
The Liberty (even parts) cost more than the Sportage.
Are we looking for a height advantage then?
If that is the case than that would be a very interesting move and project.
A 5' gain to the front??????

A 5' gain to the front?????? all we are looking for is the ability to use a different brand strut with different valving and possibly some different sets of springs. the only problem with this idea is that the Liberty weighs about 1300 lbs more than the Sportage and those front springs and struts are meant to damp a V-6 from bouncing around. even if the strut fork fits, using parts for a Liberty might create a harsh ride..... or make a nice set-up for a V-6 swap.

Are you talking about a situation for a front end STOCK Sportage??? I was referring to the RSG Front end and possibly getting ahead in that direction???????? Sounds like a good Idea huh?

[quote]the only problem with this idea is that the Liberty weighs about 1300 lbs more than the Sportage and those front springs and struts are meant to damp a V-6 from bouncing around. I think some Libturdy's had an I4, if I remember correctly. Maybe different valving and rates for the I4?
