if you have front hubs, unlock them.

and then disconnect rear driveshaft from diff.

if you dont have front hubs, disconnect front driveshaft too.

reason is that you will burn up the seals in the t-case. when the engine is running, it is running power through the tranny and turning the gears in the t-case and slinging oil.

when no input from the engine, and the front and rear driveshaft outputs are turning, no oil is being thrown around and hence, the seals going dry.

for my 90 4runner, toyota says to tow max of around 35 miles.
