And that is a 97? I would almost think you were up north here but I have not even seen an 87 that bad. Heck if you told me that was an Izusu I would expect that. It is good you don't have state inspections down there.
Welding next to a tank is no issue. Just make sure there is a top on the tank first.

Yup, a '97. 11 years old that's all. The difference between this part of the frame and the rest is a sharp contrast. We have inspections in NC. However, I go to the place run by the State. They wouldn't have known the state of the frame. They never look under cars! Crazy really. I don't need someone to tell me my car/truck needs work, but I guess others do

Looks like I'll be removing the gas tank anyway to cut the rotten part of the frame off. I might get another tank too since this one has a pretty good ding in it and the exhaust heat shield only partially attached

I can use any frame from '92 to '99 right?

I expect that would be true, I do not have CAPs on this computer so I can not tell for sure.
For doing the clip I would leave the front attached in its original mounting allowing for easier alignment of the new rear section. Well unless you really want to lift it but for 33s I would just do suspension lift if you wanted it up higher.

This may be what you said but I planned on doing to whole job on the truck. I thought about using the rear body mounts to align the rear frame clip to the rest of the frame. Is that what you mean Charlie?

I am being completely honest with you Reuben. I got physically ill when I saw the pictures of your frame. Its like looking into the future if I don't POR15 the Monteros frame. Ive had nightmares about seeing my Gen1s rust out

You can spray oil inside the frame rails to preserve them also.

Terrible isn't it? I can't focus at work today. We carry our kids around in that thing I've got to fix it fast.

Right. What about welding after that?

Are Gen 1 frames different in the rear? I know of two locally. I found one Gen 2, but the guy wanted $350 and that's if I come and cut the rear end off What the...? I called may be 10 yards and nothing. One place was like "a what? A Montana? Montero? Is that Suzuki?"...click. I emailed the guy who has the SR that Sparky got his locker from, so that might work out.

Otherwise I might have to re-think here and go back to the idea of fixing the existing frame. I did some reading about cap510's frame mod and it's not for me since this is a daily driver. I am going to do a 1" body lift though since that will resolve my radiator issues (long story). I was planning on jacking the body up a little away for more space when welding, so while I'm in there...

Right and your trucks are 8 and 9 years older than mine

Anyone know anything about the differences between Gen1 and Gen 2 frames?
