There are plenty of differences but the question is on just that rear section. I know from the rear axle forward there are many changes. I unfortunatly just have SWB ones here so I can not compare them for you.
You can weld with oil in the frame but if the oil gets heated it will start to vaporize and can ignite. Scary but it does not pack much power. I would spray it in afterwards.

Remember that the later frames with the 3.5 had the higher body mount points to fit the larger trannies. So, a pre-94 any version and a 94 LS might not work as nicely.

Might only need more spacer in the body mount to make up the difference without needed to change the tabs.

Why not just og get some rectangle tubing, cut off the bad section and rebuild it with new? Steel has come way down in price. You should be able to do it all for a couple hundred bucks and it'll be way stronger than new.

That's also a good idea. It would be good the rebuild the whole section but I just do not have the time as we need this truck daily. I wish we were ready to get a Gen3 so I could do this slowly but it's not time yet, what with Green Cards and may be moving in the summer...

That can suck, how close are you to residency? Is your wife from out of country also?

Yeah, we're all British. It's lifted $12K out of our savings so far Another $2K should do it Hmmm, about the cost of a decent Gen3 Oh well, we want to live here and that's the hoop we have to jump through. We're not alone.

Pretty close now. We were fingerprinted in December so I hope we get residency pretty soon

There is a British couple up here that own the top rated Bed & Breakfast in Vermont. Before making the commitment to purchase they presented a full business plan, it was approved without question. Now three years or so into it the government is trying to shut them down since they did not hire any full time employees. Nothing that was ever in the business plan. The B&B is now on the market and the couple plans to move to Canada. Not fair to make it hard on the working people and a free ride to the freeloaders.
