Need some help from all you factory e-locked folks. #86495 08/08/02 06:28 AM

Can anyone tell me where the factory locker ECU is located? I'm trying to figure out if my 4Runner was pre-wired for the factory electric locker. If the bulb is pre-wired, why not the rest of the wiring? Steve told me it was behind the passenger kick panel, so I went and took a picture, and it looks the same as his...

That big hard drive looking unit is labeled "ABS 89540-35112" so it's probably the ABS control unit.

I guess the locker ECU looks like this (taken from Ken Emanuel's page):

EDIT: Converted pictures to links so the page loads faster.

Any input appreciated.

Phong,

It's behind the drivers kick panel near the firewall. It's a small black plastic box about 3 or 4" held in place with one screw. I believe it has one connector.

Here's a pic of my driver side kick panel:

Don't mind all the yellow/green wiring, that's my doing . There's one connector that's hanging loose that's visible in the zoomed in picture. I'm thinking that's for the locker ECU. Can anybody confirm?

Thanks!

OK folks, I've confirmed that hanging connector is D29, (i.e. the locker wiring harness). We all probably have it! What I need now is some help finding where that locker wiring harness exits the body! This can be easily done by following the locker wiring up and off the diff any takers?

Thanks so much everybody!

Phong,

In your pictures above I don't see anything that looks like this: (Sent to me from Ken)

You're right, the ECU isn't there, but that loose white plug is for that ECU. Now I just need to check that the rest of the wiring is there. Wish me luck!
