I got that 1995 Toyota Corolla and my daily driver. I have filled it up twice, On the highway I got 36.5MPG and around town 37.5MPG. It is paying for itself for sure.

City = 17 mpg Highway? Depends on a lot of factors. Went on a road trip last summer, set the cruise down low between 75-80, got 22 mpg. If I top 100 mph, it drops below 15 mpg (possibly below 10 ), and if I keep the speeds down, I can get amazing mileage... Best tanks so far were 28 mpg (47 mph, 4th gear, commuting a 2-lane highway with a 45 mph speed limit).
I *had* an Opel Kadett (Pontiac LeMans) that I could pull over 50 mpg in, but the head cracked in November so it's long gone.
My current ride (only one driveable) is a 1995 Opel Omega (Cadillac Catera). 3.0 ECOTEC V6, auto tranny... Pulls about 18 around town and 24 highway no matter what the speed is, from 60-100 mph! After 100 mph, the mileage drops below 20 again, but it sure is fun rolling 150 mph.

I get 15mpg highway with my F-250 V-10. I haven't had my Toy long enough, but I will be happy with 8mpg. This thing will never see the highway, except on my trailer. '86 flatbed, 22R, 40" cut TSL Boggers, dual t-case, chev 1/2-ton axles.

1994 4 Runner 3.0 5 Spd 31x10 15 (I think) Tires 130K Miles I get roughly 17-18 Highway and around 15-16 in town. On the best of days. And My rig needs a serious tune up. But when it had 80K on it and ran like new it got about the same.... Got to love Toyotas!

1991 Ex Cab, 4x4, automatic tranny, 32's, bone stock (gears included) and factoring in what the weather is like, I get anywhere between 15-17 mpg in the winter and in the summer month(s) I get 18-20 mpg w/ mixed driving on highway, country road and city driving.
I got an alarming 22 mpg last year on a road trip, but considering most of the venture was down hill from a mountain range w/ a nice tail wind of about 20mph I can't really brag, especially on the return trip! Going home, up hill w/ a dirt bike in the bed and a fast wind blowing you all over the road makes for an irritating drive and looooow mpg.

'94 22re extra cab 4x4 5-speed and several engine and engine related mods. 235 tires, stock gears. I've been getting 18 since the build-up, 19-20 before that. I'll be installing a hydrogen fuel cell before too long, so that should boost it by quite a bit. Fuel cell? You don't mean one of those dumb little boxes that run off of the alternator do you? On topic though, in my 86 4runner, 22re with 191k, 235's all compleatly stock I got highway of 26 , including a mountain pass. Granted, after the pass the road slowly descends about 1500 feet over about 100 miles, but I also had the hubs locked for 20 of those miles (in 2wd). Not sure about in town though. Also, I had just done an oil change, running full synthetic, though I usually get about 23-26 no matter what. In my truck that I used to have (also and 86, sr5, 140k, stock 22re with 30's) I would get roughly 17 in town, and 26 highway consistantly. I'm going to be adding 31's on aluminum wheels soon to the 4runner, I'll report what the mileage change is.

I have 1994 3.0l V6 Manual. It makes 15-16 in town. I try some tricks to increase its improvement, such not trying to accelerate, but did not imporve the gas performance.

I've noticed one of the biggest factors for me when it comes to fuel milage comes down to the oil. If I run 10w-40 I seem to get about 2-3 mpg less on average, where as with 10w-30 I seem to do a little better. Of course there are other things to take in to account, such as time of year. In montana they have been adding 10% ethanol (missoula/bitterroot valley) in the winter months and back in idaho they haven't been adding anything. Now I'm running full synthetic 10W-30 and it seems to make my mileage higher and more consistent. Just a thought

Judging by the many many people that are using them with success, I personally wouldn't call it dumb. However, I don't have mine up and running yet (almost). If I get any gains, I'll post them.
