Sounds like a bit of fear mongering....

The OD on the Auto is pretty tough. Mine typicly kicks into OD at around 45-50 mph. If I'm not going faster than 45 sometimes I turn of the OD so it does not annoy me by shifting in and out a few extra times.

The factor here is its anannoyance and nothing else. I have rebuilt a few of these transmissions and IMHO this is not an issue.
