The difference between having and not having a swaybar can be felt even if going in a straight line. I've felt that difference, and it is distinct. Where you feel it, though, is (as I mentioned above) if you are not just stopping but also throwing in small steering movements to avoid a collision (but then technically it's not a straight line).
