My 87's #1 rod bearing spun at 160,000 miles. Heavy use, and a PO with a love for silicone.

My friend's cam broke in his 86 while we were building his EB'd engine. When we pulled the engine out it had 220,000 miles and the bottom was in great shape ***EXCEPT*** his rod and main bearings were scored.

Another member here decided to rebuild his 85's engine just for the heck of it... Had 223,000 miles on it, was selling his Taco and wanted to make it 100% good to go before it became his only mode of transportation. When we opened it up, it was the smoothest running 22RE I had messed with. The insides were immaculate! He's an older gent, and cares for his rigs well. Upon disassembly, however, guess what? His rod bearings were scoring, too!

Your rod bearings are on their last legs, I guarantee it. Your mains are not that much better off. At least pop the oil pan off and remove one of your rod caps to inspect the bearing... I bet you will find it's scored.
