got a 97 sahara, i believe the fuel pressure regulator is bad because when its warm it cranks for a while before starting, it does it when its cold sometimes also, ill test the fuel pressure and everything probably tomorrow, but if it is the fuel pump/regulator how much time am i look at for replacing it? ive never droped a fuel tank but my brother has done it several times on his various race cars and he will be helping me

It may be a simple leak BACK problem.. Try this: When cold turn the key to the "RUN" position to activate the fuel pump.. then after a 10 count turn the key to START.. If it solves the problem you are good to go with no repair.

i put the guage on and it read 48psi when running (spec is 44-54psi) but after i shut it off i waited 5 minutes and read the guage and it dropped down to 10 psi, i was told this is normal? seems to me like it means the check valve is bad? if thats normal what else would be making it crank longer before starting?

BJ, could this be the type of system that the pump is triggered only by a cranking signal?

No...It is also triggered by the run position.

Body Damage is Cool
It is of course tirggered by both.

The anti drain back valve in the pump is bad. Dropping the tank is related to how full it is. Empty, 1-2 hours on your back, less with a lift and tranny jack.
If full it with fight you the whole way.
