Getting the Wheeling Fever
Just wondering if anyone has installed one of these on their sporty? Do you think it is worth it?

Well, given that they handle like a bag of s**t stock standard and the first thing ppl do is look to replace the springs with something more "useful". They would be OK if you only have stock springs.

I actually took both my front and rear anti-sway bar (stock in the longbodies) off when I put in the spring lift, as it really isn't needed. Vehicle now handles far better than new, very "chuckable" in corners with no wallowing, even with the lifts and tires. Still able to tow 4400lb trailer and get excellent rear articulation, a good balance front and rear. They really shouldn't be necessary in a shortbody as the longbody is about 200-300lb heavier aft of the rear wheels (leverage action increases the "sway" moment forces).

Biggest problem with the stock suspension is that the springs are too soft (leading to poor handling around corners), so they tried to fix it by putting stiff anti-sway bars in it. All this does is cause the front end (and to a degree the rear end ) to behave like a bucking bronco and understeer with any surface irregularities in the road (familiar sensation????). To a degree the dampers could be a bit stronger to control the spring oscillations.

Gary, Dave, anyone else who cares to chime in, I would like some advice / opinions...

I am thinking about just removing my front sway bar. Gary, sounds like you had decent results doing this?

I will be running stiffer springs up front, the ones Dave/RSG sells in his kit.

Do you guys think the front will flex up better without the anti-sway bar, and will it be safe on the roads?

I don't drive like a race car driver, but I don't want it to handle TOO poorly on the corners, especially if it could be a safety issue.

So do you guys think it will handle acceptably without it, considering the springs will be stiffer up front?

I am also installing new Monroe front struts when I install the springs. I hope I don't regret not getting the stiffer KYB's.

I had no negative results leaving out the sway bar. Especially with the rsg springs. I don't think you need it, BUT you can try it and see for yourself, if it isnt handling the way you want, throw the sway bar back in. Its only a couple bolts.

As long as you don't try and use the standard rate springs you should be OK. OE's are way to soft and will bottom outgoing around even the most modest of roundabouts, let alone a decent sharp turn. It really isn't the "wallowing" that is of concern, it is actually keeping all 4 wheels on the ground that allows you to keep control. Best example of that can be seen in very early Range Rovers that looked quite scary from the outside as the body seemed to be at 45 degrees to the wheels, but they stuck to the road very well and the "feedback" of the vehicle being at that angle when you were driving was enough to make you slow down a bit anyway.

It will most definitely flex a lot better without the bar....

I had the eibach lift on mine. I took the sway bar off and it felt better without it. With it on,it was kind of restricked. I usually did about 75 mph on the highway and didn't slow down on the turns. When you first take it off you will notice a tiny bit of diference with the handling but after the first trip you'll not even think twice about it again.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Now you've gone and got me curious. I have the 40mm Ironman lift and they are very stiff. I hae wondered how much difference disconnecting the sway bars would make.

If I get the time to do the disconnect and can find some trails still passable (the local government has blocked the majority of trails in the name of water conservation. if you can't drive on the tracks you can't wear away the soil so that it washes into the reservoirs, strange how some of the blocked traks are on the opposite side of the moutains to the reservoirs!!)
