Would have been mainly for looks, but that phase has passed. But at least we know we could get one 'if' we wanted one!

i have been in a few water crossings were i had the water coming up over my hood.

on more than one occasion i have simply replaced the k&n as it was not wroth taking the time to clean it after the amount of mud on it.
i have come close to hydro locking the engine but got lucky and it just ran extremly poor for about an hour.

mind you i also run a cone filter in place of the stock air box. so it is not nearly as protected.

but the snorkel and intake box i plan on will solve all of this.

the fact that it looks bad ass is just a bonus. but it definitely serves more function as most of the trail rides i do require water crossings and the such.

even though i would rarely need it,i always thought it might act as a ram air somewhat or at least giving a cold denser charge of air. i dont know if any of you have heard of red river gorge in ky. natural bridge off mountain parkway. but i could have used a snorkel down there a few times.water for the most parts scares me. i hate gettin wet. especaily when its cold.with the computers at the feet of the passenger.im just not sure how well the doors are sealed or would hold out water.
im sure there would be some other stuff under the hood we might need to seal too. but i would like to know and improve my deep water ability.
would have to raise diffs and tranny/transfer case vent tubes, install manual rad. fan cutoff switch and a imsure a few other things i cant think of right now...
man i just cant stand the thought of a soaked interior, the stink from mold after a few days id have to pull the seats, yank the carpet, probably through it away and just rhino coat the whole inside

that is actually something else i am looking at doing this summer is to ditch the carpet in favour of some box liner! I have so much mud in my interior all the time that it would be so much easier to clean.

the area i usually wheel at is flooded swamp and water is usually up to the top of my wheels and sometimes over my hood. my interior usually has to dry out for a week or so after wheelin and it smells pretty funky. used to have a problem with diffs and tranfer case and tranny gettin water inside but ran tubing from breathers to engine bay at top of firewall. i wanna get the carpet out and use a bedliner (brush on) or rubber mat. something removable. airbox usually gets water in it but never enough to wet filter, but its scary thinking another inch of water could probably hydro lock the engine.

Body Damage is Cool
May I ask, where did you install breather hoses?

I know you can install breathers on the front and rear diffs, I did that on my old Sportage. However I also remember there was a spot on either the transmission or the transfer case, i forget which, but I put a breather hose on that too.

But I seem to remember there was some worry that there was another location that water could get in if it was up over the top of the transmission, do you know?

Also, when I put in the hoses, I did it only after installing the 1.4" body lift, otherwise I wasn't able to reach onto the top of the tranny and transfer case... is that how you did it?

yes i have the 1 3/8 " body lift. i used clear tubing. rear diff breather hose i took it up into the chassis, looped the end a couple a times. took the brather hose from the tranny and front diff through the chassis up the firewall and strapped it behind the battery looped it a couple of times at the ends. ill take some pics when i get a chance. i a not sure if the transfer case has a breather...oh well never got water in it
