Just got my 1st jeep, needs some work. Here is my thoughts of upgrades: Change head to 4.0, add motorcraft 2100 carb, add header, install HEI dist. Let me say this, converting to MPI: to expensive, out of budget. Correct me if I am wrong, adding 4.0 head gives me more highend torque, motorcraft 2100 carb seems to have the best reviews, These all seem to be simple enough changes.

Well Keith you are gonna spend a bunch of money on that engine anyway..For just a bit more go first class and put the complete 4.0 in there..
Look around and see what a donor vehicle would cost that already has everything you'd need in it.
Although the components you mention can be made to work..they do not FIT each other perfectly. There is a lot more to be gained by putting everything that does fit in there at the same time.

I considered a 4.0 swap then ran across the articles about just using the 4.0 head with the reasoning of keeping the 4.2 block getting the low end torque and adding the 4.0 head to increase the top end. thats the theory anyway. need input from someone who has done this modifcation for results. thanks big jim for the suggestion to put this on the forum. lets get some feedback...
