I have a 1989 Toy x-cab 5 speed 4x4, it has no badges on it to tell what it is, how do you tell what model it is? What is the differences in the base,DLX,& SR5 models? Thanks.

Should be listed on the VIN/Model Info. plate/sticker:

Different trim and option levels.

Also, if it's in Carfax's database, you can plug your VIN in there. It's just that if you see there are records present, you have to pay for the report.

Sorry no, you can't ask for someone with Carfax here. They're getting a little crabby about it legally, just an FYI.

If the instrument cluster has a tach, at least the cluster is a SR5. The other differences between the DLX & SR5 are cosmetic.

The bas package would have a vinyl floor, no rpm gauge, no trip meter, no oil pressure or battey guage, and likely one piece door windows, no wheel well molding, and A/C was optional. The DLX would have had carpet, either 2 or 1 pc door windows(wing window), rpm gauge, trip meter, oil pressure and battey guages, chrome wheel well molding, and A/C was standard(I believe). The SR% would have had everything the DLX model came with, plus bucket seats w/center console(DLX only had 40/60 bench seats), cruise control(not available on DLX), an SR5 sticker on the tailgate(which added $500 more a yr to your insurance). I beilieve that the SR5 was also the only model you could get a sunroof in. I am also not sure if you could get a 4cyl. SR5 model, DLX was available in both 4 and 6 cyls.

The above is true for 3rd gen trucks, but as for 1st and 2nd gen. trucks in my experience damn near every truck is different. My 88' is a DLX, has carpet but no tach, no oil/volt, trip, ac etc. My 87' is a DLX, same as above but no carpet...gets confusing when you go to look at/buy a truck cuz unless its a full-blown SR5 the trim level seems to mean nothing

I have a DLX '94 and it came with a bench seat, not split 60/40 bench. I do have tach, oil, and temp gauges. I also have AC, split side windows, opening rear window, and a carpeted floor. It also came with 4 cylinder 22RE, W56 trany, 4.10 differentials and standard sized tires. The split side windows are great for venting, but a nightmare for security. Sounds like there were a bunch of options.

You are right about the 1st & 2nd gen options, the '89-91 trucks had the ptions I listed, atleast according to the brochure at the time I bought my '90. The '91 I have had the same package as my '90 except for the tow package(drop hitch/wiring harness).

A 3rd gen X-cab w/bench seat, did you buy it new or used that way? A bench seat would make the rear seats useless, even for kids.

I imagine options could have also varied by region, both of mine are CA models.

Not extended cab, it's a regular cab with a short box.

I bought it new off the lot. It's a 50 state model, not a CA one. Picked it up in Iowa.

I don't know if the std. cabs would have come w/anything but a bench seat, even w/SR5 model, you tend to have less leg room w bucket seats. I am also not sure if the 3rd gen SR5 model was available for the std. cab, or for anything w/a 4cyl. in it. I have only seen the SR5 badge on 3rd gen X-cabs and Runners w/v6.
