Lake Mead is going dry in a big way. Any bets on when Las Vegas' water intake at Lake Mead will dry up? Yeah, the Colorado snow pack is at 200% of it's normal for this time of the year, but then they get most of their snow late in the season. Will that happen? Right now Lake Mead is at 51% of capacity and dropping. Yeah, this is serious, but I can't see Las Vegas not taking bets on it...

I think the whole SW needs to go on a water diet. No green lawns for starters, this includes golf courses. No non native plants in outdoor landscaping. Cover all outdoor pools when not in use.

Here's an editorial from our local newspaper: EDITORIAL: Lake Mead dry as a bone?i would think that the people who run las vesgas will find a way to pump water from somewhere...or maybe fly in some evian or something That's not even funny. The Southern Nevada Water Authority is trying to get a project to create a pipeline from northern Nevada (Ely) to Las Vegas. They've already bought up a lot of ranch/farm land for the water rights. I'm totally against that, BTW. Here's an article from Ely from sometime last year: Is SNWA pipeline worth the cost in Las Vegas dollars and White Pine heritage?

Easier said than done, I suspect. Especially if you don't live in the SW. Exactly where is "The Village" again? Eric W.

Easier said than done, I suspect. Especially if you don't live in the SW. Exactly where is "The Village" again? The Village is where they kept #6 to try to break him. I'm in south central Iowa where it is possible to grow a lawn without watering. I will note, I have lived in desert climates, and I didn't try to grow a green grass lawn. I had exclusively desert plants, some of which were grasses, just not standard turf grasses. The desert grasses dried up and went dormant between the rains. I remember hearing the desert SW didn't have enough water supplies for expected future growth two decades ago. This isn't some short term issue. Now why haven't they taken the measures needed to stabilize things? Well, now we're just a couple years from possible systems failure. Oops!!!
