I might lose, but I'd bet money that the ignition switch is going bad. I'd replace the electrical (rear) portion of the key switch (includes the pigtail connector) - it's an easy job and only costs about $18 for the electrical portion of the switch.

Frank From what he is descibing, it sounds like a winner to me.

No, not yet but will try it. The last few days it has started and ran good. Today started and ran good but while driving, lost power for short time twice.

Thanks. Will check it out but something new has been added to the problem. The last few days it has started and ran good. Today started and ran good but while driving, lost power for short time twice. Could this still be the ignition switch? Is it possible that if the ignition switch is bad, that the starter turns over but there is no spark to coil?

Could this still be the ignition switch? Yes. Is it possible that if the ignition switch is bad, that the starter turns over but there is no spark to coil? Yes. Coil current and starter solenoid switch current are separate circuits within the switch. The starter solenoid switch only gets current when the switch is in the START position. Coil current is provided in both START and RUN positions. Your switch is likely carbon fouled where the switch makes contact as it rotates to include the starter solenoid switch contact. Assuming the switch to be the problem, further delay in replacing the electrical portion of the switch will eventually add another symptom...... no start at all. Frank

I have removed the steering colum cover have found the rear unit but can see no screws or other way of removinng it. Have searced in the Forum for past posts and find nothing. What is the trick to removing the ignition?

I've forgotten how the switch assembly is removed, but the rear white plastic portion is fastened onto the metal lock portion by two screws. IIRC, the entire assembly is captured by being sandwiched between the top and bottom column covers. Keep fiddling with it - it'll come out. Then you need to unplug the harness pigtail.

I am not sure but I might have found the problem. It starts with no problem for the last 5 days.
There was a second problem that led me to the first. Sometimes the heater fan did not start properly. I have traced the wires and found that the ground was not tight.
Along with the ground from the fan is a ground to the ECU. Cleaned and tightened them both and everything works for the last 5 days.
