i got a nice little trooper good black paint job no rust. good interior.

i have access to all sorts of half ton chevy 4x4 axles and chevy engines and trannys . plasma cutter all kinds of welders and tubing bender and saws and grinders, you name it .

this will be for florida mud use only. nothing fancy with the suspention travel . home made spring packs with blocks and home made ladder bars.home made drive shafts.a carbureted motor. trailerd only no street use at all.home made body lift as high as i need to go to clear any trany or engine fitting isues.the roof is getting cut off!

this is going to be a fun truck.

this will be a build up thread. i will slowlt get some pictures up as time goes on.

I have a good link to a buld up sort of like i am doing.

i will be running 4:88 gears and 40" boggers.it will be a back yard red neck build up.

the one in the link is a high class build up.i am going cheap. i will have more into the new tires than the whole truck.

http://www.independent4x.com/generic45.html

but i would like more. do any of you guys have any good chevy engine swap links i could look at?

Mine's a v6 but it is the same principle. At first the only reason I went v6 was to keep my a/c but now I'm not keeping it so I coulda went v8.

v8's are 4" longer than the 4.3 so your fan will likely have to be a pusher rather than a puller.

Motor mount plaement will be the same. I used motor mounts from a BBC truck. But they are a direct bolt in since all 90* GM engines use the same mounting bosses for the blocks.

You do realize that Matt's RS is using 1-ton gear to turn those tires, right?

You do realize using 1/2-ton stuff is probably going give you lots of grief tryin to turn 40's? Especially if you are going to be using it in mud and with any appreciable HP.

Good point MC, I missed that part of the first post.

Yeah your 1/2 ton axles will last about a half a run with 40" Boggers and a v8. Heck even a I4 or v6 will destroy them pretty quick.

37" max on the 1/2 tons.

it will be allrite for now with a stock motor and its a mud truck only not a rock crawler. i got to get this truck built.the axles i have to build it with are regular old 12 bolt rear and 10 bolt front.

one of the gang is putting in a dana 60 front and back in his blazer"8 lug" and has ofered me his front 30 spline 10 bolt and rear 14 bolt "6 lug" those will be fine upgrades for what i am doing . there are no rocks in my entire state

this trooper is going to work out fine.

i have seen big lifted samurais with big axles out there mudding but they all have had 4 cylinders and could not realy spin the tires a million miles and hour like a V8 could but they still mud good and huge lifted trucks and blazers/broncos can mud good.
So i bet this little trooper with a big motor and 39.5 x17 boggers is going to realy kick some ass out there in the swamp.

Yeah, but they weigh A LOT less than your Trooper.

Rocks or not, tires that big are not going to be friendly to small axles. The Isuzu 12-bolt in the back of your Trooper is stronger than a 10-bolt and the general consensus is 37's being the high end max, with 35's being a bit more of a conservative max size.

Good Luck!

Thanks. Yeah, steering is figured out. I moved my box out 2" and going with Hi-steer. 3/4" arms with 1" spacers. Got my steering setup from Independent4x.

Does anyone here know what a 39.5" Bogger weighs with a 10" wide wheel? Add about 20lbs of mud packed into that wheel on top of that.......Just don't say you wern't warned <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />
