Hi all, It's been awhile since I've been on the site.
A few years back I wheeled with axeman and joe4x4. I was known as Canuckca or Kanuckca
I still have a 2000 sporty and it has been through some interesting times. I've tried to search on a current problem but no success.
If someone is willing to point me in the right direction that would be great.
My sportage is equipped with ABS. It comes on even when I'm on dry pavement. Apparently the speed sensor and the ABS sensor don't agree. It ABS sensor assumes the vehicle to be going 20km/h faster than it actually is going.
Anyone know how to correct this?

Hey nice to see you back again!

This is just a shot in the dark, but you might want to check the ABS sensor that goes on the rear diff. If I remember correctly it's on the top of the diff. It is a magnetic sensor (hall-effect I believe) and it will sometimes get enough metal dust stuck to it to make it get a false reading. My 96 Sportage got this problem once every couple years, I would pull the sensor and clean off the shavings then it was fine. I probably should have changed the diff gear oil too if it had shavings lol... but that Sportage is gone now.

Anyway it's just an idea you could check, also my 96 only had rear-wheel ABS so if yours has all 4 wheel ABS you might have the same type of sensor on the front diff, or they might be in totally different locations etc.

The actual wheel sensors have been cleaned and checked. There are three wheel sensors the one on the rear diff the one you mentioned and the two on the front.
Supposedly there is a gravity or motion sensor buried somewhere that has an impact on the ABS system. I have yet to track that down.
Then it could be something with the ground, as we know the wiring on these beasts have issues.
Having said that, I think it would be wise to check and clean the sensors again.
