1990 toyota hilux, dx, 4x4 single cab
I just finished spending four days installing acura integra seats and herculining the cab where the carpet was. Then as I was showing a friend around midnight on the day of completion drunk skank runs me down leaving me to a ninja move to get out of harms way. Now I have a torn hinge for the door, a totaled door and a janked up fender. It was a hit and run. Thankfully in the pursuit that followed I was able to flag down a cop and he caught the person trying to get on interstate leaving my neighborhood.
So as soon as I get police report wed. I will find out her name and ins. information. This leaves me in a bind. I hear in Al if the damage equals 75% of value it is a total loss. The book value is 3200 but as we all know a 90 model single cab is usually irreplaceable for under 5k in good condition.
Does anyone have any advice, info? Has anyone welded a door hinge back on? Should it be tig, mig, stick welded, I have access to all types.

See if someone will take some digi pix for you (insurance maybe?). Host them on photobucket or imageshack in order to post here, so we see what you have. Glad you're okay from the sounds of it. Gander around at www.car-part.com and the parts f/s here to see if you can find a cab? Swap is easy enough if a bunch of wiring isn't gone if you had to go that route.

I think I'd start by pulling the quarter panel off, so you can see how much the door pillar has rotated forward, and see what can be done.
Compare it to the other side; hop the door off if you need to. How's the A-pillar look above the dashpad?
How's the door striker (aft); were you able to open the door, ie, unlatch it at least? Looks like she caught you a little higher than the floorboards, so that's encouraging.

The collission was into the open door so the latch was not affected aft all damage was in this area. Hopefully I can get a really high estimate and do the work myself minus paint for under half the cost. will check rotation and after insurrance adjuster looks at it will remove 1/4 pan.

Use the '93 FSM sticky'd here if you need to. I think 88-94 donor door skins will work for ya. Whatever you do, DO NOT toss your other door until you've got all your stuff swapped over, and you know it works. If you can't find a door locally, ask this guy what his doors are off of. (Mass.) or this guy (Ohio) Might be at least able to get door hinges off the latter maybe? Hope the geometry brings some good news!

Get some estimates of repair's first thing. The responsible party's insurance carrier is responsible for damages up to the cost of repair or policy limit, whichever is lower. They have no salvage rights unless the state you live in has some BS laws passed by politicans for the benefit of insurance companies. I hope for your sake it's not Allsnake. Check out www.allstateinsurancesucks.com for why.

Ok, the update is as follows. The adjustor came out did not knock on the door just evaluated the vehicle and left. The company is claiming the NADA value of the vehicle under the middle value for the vehicle. This conveniently puts the vehicle in total loss range because there is no carpet front rear bumper and side view mirror damage. After much arguement on the phone I am trying to do a market value of the vehicle becuase they are offering me 2700 dollars and claiming the value is 2975. If I can find proof that a 1990 dx is worth 3500 dollars it is no longer a total loss but now a 2300 dollar opportunity to repair the vehicle properly without a salvage title. Long story short if I can either find vehicles of the like in order to prove the vehicles worth or get an estimate for less than 2306 then I get to keep my baby.
Has anyone dealt with this before in Alabama. Statefarm is the ins. company involved. cheers

X2 what KiwiCowboy said. Get your own estimates of the damage, and see what Blue book has for value.
Remember you are the wronged party, and their client is the one that wronged you, they should just be happy that you weren't hit, or they would be on the hook for a lot more money.
With Ins. Adjusters you have to be willing to be ruthless, don't be nice, their only purpose is to save their comnpany as much money as they can. That is why they are willing to give you a check and total your truck, so they can actually save money over the repair costs.
If you don't get anywhere, call an attorney, the consultation should be free(don't go to one that isn't). Who knows you might have some soft tissue damage from having to "Ninja" move out of the way, or some traumatic stress from nearly being killed that is just now manifesting itself. I am not saying lie about it, but just the hint of possibility to an adjuster and you will see them right a check almost instantly.
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else. '90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction. '91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed

I just got all of this settled for about 75 bucks less on the estimate than they had. It took 3.5 hours of being really stern and referencing reality a place they do not operate in. As far as the property side of the wreck I got the value of the vehicle increased by about $350 and hit em with an estimate of 74.4456% which rounded down to 74% untotalling my baby. Now I just gotta get the damn thing fixed as cheap as possible so I have money for goodies.
