This weekend I was taking my 4Runner to get an alignment and they found that the cv boot was torn. Along with the alignment work it was recommended that the idler arm be replaced as well as both cv axles and boots, and the bearings repacked. I couldnt get the work done and decided to put it off later. I put over 400 miles on my 4Runner in a three day period. I did experience quite a bit of shimmying in the front end during my driving. Last night I heard a lot of rattling on the driver side axle. The cv boot is torn and upon further investigation the cage assembly that secures the bearings is broken and the bearings have fallen out. Its still drivable but the cage is rattling around the axle and its a little loud. How long can I drive the vehicle like this? I have to get it to a shop. Will the axle fall off? Sorry for the long story
