Depending on your states insurance laws you could always let them total it, take their check, buy the car from the insurance co. as a salvage vehicle, and then use the rest of the insurance $$$ to help with repairs. If the damage is cosmetic and you just need to bolt on a new door and rear fender then you might even come out ahead if you do the work yourself. How much did they offer you for it when they totalled it?

Yeah, I always thought you were better off if they totaled it? Maybe the laws are different for different states though. I know I hit a deer and totaled a Merkur I had about a month after I got it. I got $1500 more than I paid for it from American Family and paid $400 to keep the car. Swapped the hood/fender/grille for extras I had and was good to go. In my case the title never even changed hands, so it remained clean.

The local college autobody classes around here are always looking for practice projects! Try a local comm. college.

Thanks for the help with the link Capn' Thanks all for the advice. I'm gonna sell it, I bought it to commute to work and to take up in the mountains on the weekends with my fiancee. But trust me she DOESN'T think "body damage is cool" so I'm not even going to bother attempting the fix. I met with the city today and she said they only issue checks once a week, I said whateva......... So it will be next Tuesday or Wednesday before I know what they are going to offer. No offense to any government employees out there but man o man what a hassle

The plow driver probably about shat his pants when he saw how little damage your truck took. As long as the rear axle is not bent looks like a good trail truck to me.
