Need a Spot
I am wanting to put a complete TRD exhaust on my 2000 tacoma extra cab and am wandering if any one out there has experience with this and could tell me if its worth it. also I emailed TRD and my truck has one catalytic converter but the TRD cat-back is made for the models with two cats. can some one tell me if the mounts are the same for both exhause systems so I can retro fit the dual cat exhaust unto a single cat truck?

I put a set on my 2001 Double Cab 4x4 at 54K miles. Took me one evening, and part of the next day to complete the job.

My Taco has the TRD Supercharger and TRD Cat-back exhaust, and the headers definately made a difference. I followed the instructions religiously, and have had no issues and no leaks for almost 50K miles now. (I did replace all 12 exhaust studs/nuts with new, and used new stock MLS manifold gaskets to seal the headers to the heads)

One of the hardest steps was getting the stock cross-over pipe out intact (so I could put the stock manifolds back if needed later...). Most guys just take a sawsall to the pipe and make quick work of it. I spent a couple of hours with my truck up on a lift, and lowered (and raised -- several times!) the back of the transmission/transfer case to wiggle the pipe out.

The only thing that wasn't bolt-on was the requirement to cut off the exhaust pipe in front of the front Cat, and weld on the TRD-supplied header flange so you can bolt up the cat to the header down tube.

I can't help you with the single-cat system, but it should be real easy to use the TRD flange, and fabricate a connector pipe if your cat isn't in the same location as the front cat on a dual-cat system.

One other comment: There was an outfit selling 3.4 headers on Ebay that are configured exactly like the TRD headers for about half the price. JBA also has a similar set cheaper than TRD. Not sure of the quality, but worth taking a look.

Good luck.

Roll Me Over
Best prices headers are the doug thorley headers. They made the TRD units previously.
PM lskustumz on the www.customtacos.com forum, he works at thorley and gives great deals on headers.
They also have jardine exhausts for 3.4's.
You will probably save $1000 buying from him rather than TRD...
But to tell you the honest truth, if you're looking for power, get the supercharger and fuel kit first, then intake and exhaust. IMHO
